                               What is Rotary all about?


Rotary is an organization of business and professional persons united
worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards
in all vocations and help build goodwill and peace in the world. There are
over 1,200,000 Rotarians worldwide belong to over 30,000 Clubs in some 160
countries.

The first Rotary gathering was organized in Chicago, Illinois on 23 February
1905 by Paul Harris, a young lawyer. He was elected the first President of
Rotary International in 1910. The New Haven Rotary Club was founded in
December, 1917. Since then the Club has sponsored the formation of Rotary
Clubs in Bridgeport, Wallingford, Milford, Ansonia, Derby/Shelton, Madison,
Norwalk, Branford, West Haven, Hamden, East Haven, Cheshire and Woodbridge.
One of our former members, Donald A. Adams, served a President of Rotary
International in 1925-26 and 10 of our members have served as District
Governors.
